This December looks a little different for me. We’re in the season of giving, surrounding yourself with loved ones, and spending time in good company… at least that’s the story we’re sold.
But as I close out my first full 12 months of entrepreneurship with an empty bank account and borrowing money just to get by, I’m reminded that 27.1% of Americans are right here with me—barely making it through the month, choosing which bills get paid, and navigating the pressure of a holiday season that feels nothing like the commercials.
Everything right now is an ad for the “perfect gift,” the “perfect body,” or the “perfect January reset.”
Meanwhile, for many of us, December is simply about survival.
And for me, this season has always carried a weight of its own. The comments at holiday dinners:
“Why do you eat that?”
“How vegetarian are you really?”
“Still single?”
“Looks like you’ve gained a little weight.”
“When are you going to get a real job?”
Or the pity invitations—people feeling uncomfortable that I actually enjoy my own company after years of working two jobs and never having quiet. Rest became my holiday tradition, and honestly, that was the healthiest shift I ever made.
But this year feels different.
This year, I keep thinking about the women out there who don’t yet know there’s another way to live, lift, rest, and take care of themselves. The women who think they have to force themselves into a big commercial gym to be judged. The women who don’t feel welcome, or seen, or supported. The women who feel like outsiders in spaces that are supposed to be for everyone.
That’s who I’m building Head 2 Toe Strength for.
If you’ve ever felt orphaned, othered, overlooked, or forgotten, this community was created with you in mind. You don’t have to pretend this season is magical if it isn’t. You don’t have to fit into someone else’s idea of how your body, your lifestyle, or your choices should look.
